Hosting site on server but net gateway is on other server.
« on: December 23, 2003, 09:15:54 AM »
Hey all

I have a small business network, running about 10 clients of SME 5.5.

Recently upgraded my internet to satellite connection, but put it on its own Windows XP Pro and using AnalogX Proxy Server to share it.
I can use the internet all throughout the network by going to internet properties and assignning the LAN to proxy servers address and port 6588.

I have configured the SME server to forget about the dialup that it once used and to use the new internet gateway which is 192.168.0.1.             SME server is 192.168.0.2.
but i have a problem  my SME hosts the business's website and staff's emails and none of it is working.

But although i try to point the gateway to the internet server i guess the reason its not working is because i have to try to implement the port of 6588 which i think is specific for the AnalogX Proxy server, there is no other way of sharing the satellite internet because of its setup.

SO FINAL QUESTION IS HOW DO I PUT PORT 6588 IN WITH THE GATEWAY OF 192.168.0.1 ????

any idea's,  kinda urgent too.

Thanks a lot fellas

Kris

If you need to forward a port from the SME 5.5 server you should install the port forwarding contrib found here:
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/dmay/mitel/contrib/portforwarding/dmc-mitel-portforwarding-0.0.1-5.noarch.rpm

Having said that ,I'm not sure why you just did not configure the SME server to operate
as the server gateway directly for your satellite connection? I would think there must be some way to configure SME directly.
If not hopefully someone on the forum can help.

Cheers

i have that port forwarding feature installed already, will try it.

reason for not putting decoder onto SME is coz i do have PCI decoder, and have found linux drivers but they are too hard for me to install, basically i have to write half the driver itself.  but the harder parts is putting it into the startup, rc.local or what ever its called,   anyway i will give the port forwarding a go.
thanks

nope, did not work, another thing, i have also changed "hostnames and address's" in the server manager to point to 192.168.0.1 aswell, but still didn't work.

If you are using your XP pro as your gateway/proxy, you need to configure it (XP) to forward ports to SME behind it. Also your Public DNS/MX need to point to your new IP address (Satellite).
Port forwarding on SME server or pointing SME to use the proxy settings on  XP computer have nothing to do in your situation.
You probably need something different then just proxy sharing application on the XP computer. Look for sothing that does NAT and capable of port forwarding for your XP computer.

k, will look for another type of proxy server which will allow me to configure it more.
This AnalogX is kinda restricting in configuration.
thanks

You can forward ports in the XP box to the SME box.  Try this:

Go to you network connections.
Right click on the connection that is connected to the internet.
Click on properties.
Click on the "Advanced" tab.
Make sure the "Allow other network users to connect through this computers ineternet connection" check box is checked.
Click the "settings" button (lower RH corner)
Chech the services needed.
Edit each service to point to the SME's ip address (SME ip should be static)

Bingo!! ports forwarded to SME box from web!!

Good Luck

That wont work on account of due to the nature of the satellite internet, you are not allowed to use sharing within the XP windows, otherwise it will not work, dont ask me why thats just what happens, thats what westnet said to me aswell.

i use a proxy server, and it does not allow me to do so,
so i may d/l a better proxy server which will allow me to configure services.
