SME6 hangs with 'Configuring Kernel parameters'
« on: January 06, 2004, 11:08:59 PM »
fresh install of SME 6.0 final:

install procedes properly until the first reboot. SME starts to boot and hangs at
'Configuring Kernel Parameters' message...

have installed SME 6.0 on this very machine before without this failure...

no changes were made as far as hard drive and/or cdrom
(IDE setup: HDD is master on channel 0 and cdrom is master on channel 1)

have tried reinstalling several time to no avail....

Also, have indentical machine (right down to the version of NIC cards and HDDs) on which I have successfully installed SME6.0

any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Try wiping the hard drive entirely with a utility from the drive manufacturer (typically "write zeroes" or some such), then retry your install.  You might check the RAM as well.

Have replaced the Memory (2x Pc100 64MB SDRAM), HDDs (2x Fujitsu 10GB IDE) and CPU (Intel Celeron 433MHz FCPGU)

all four hard drives have been wiped prior to each install....

on each replacement, I have reinstalled SME 6.0 with the same results, the PC hangs on boot at the 'Configuring kernel parameters'

This is really getting to me as I have installed SME 6.0 on this very machine only days ago....

Thanks for any help.
