RFC compliant user names?

RFC compliant user names?

Having asked before in the General forum, and received no response, I'll ask here.
Is there any way of allowing user names that include punctuation (specifically the period character.) This would allow us to simply replace our current system, which is 100% compliant with the RFCs (user names in the format of Forename.Surname@domain.name)

Perhaps you could point me to the RFCs that you refer to. I didn't know that there was an RFC for usernames. We certainly would like to be RFC compliant wherever we can.

As to your desired email address format, I have a contrib RPM to provide firstname.lastname email aliases for every user. You can get it from ftp://ftp.e-smith.net/pub/e-smith/contrib/charlieb/.

I read from somewhere I now can't remember some advice about usernames - they should be chosen by the user - the user is the one who needs to type it day after day.
