Hi,
How do i upgrade to samba 2.2.0 in e-smith 4.1.2?
I.ve tried to install the rpm (rpm -Uvh ....), but i get all kinds of error
messages.
The reason i like to do this is because i can't access the e-smith
samba server using windows XP.

Hi Niem,
This is what I did to upgrade to 2.2.0, it's taken from a combo of posts by "Tina" & "Dan Brown" a couple of months back

1) rpm -e --nodeps samba samba-common
2) rpm -e --nodeps samba-clients
3) Install 2.2.x : rpm -i   or   rpm -Uvh (cant remember which I used now, sorry!)
4) This apparently blows the smbpasswd file so you you have to reset passwords for all users (hope you don't have many).

...so, do as I did not do, and back up /etc/smbpasswd.  I still don't know _why_ it nukes smbpasswd, but it apparently does.

After rpm -e --nodeps samba samba-common, i get the following
error message:
cannot remove /var/lock/samba - directory not empty
removal of /etc/samba/smbusers failed: No such file or directory

Any suggestions to solve this problem are welcome.

Ok, the error message in my previous message is not a problem.
I've finished upgrading to samba 2.2.0 successfully.
But my problem still exists:
I can't access my e-smith 4.1.2 server using samba in combination with
Windows XP.
Any more suggestions?
Perhaps samba 2.2.1? (I can't find that one)

Sorry Niem I've no experience of XP.
Just a thought though, there was a problem with W2k workstations with SP2 installed... could be XP has this built in.
This is supposed to be fixed with samba 2.2.1
