DMZ install/setup

DMZ install/setup

I currently run a webserver and local network behind a freesco router/gateway/firewall.  I have separated my webserver from my local net to add one more layer of protection to my internal machines and help balance the traffic in my internal lan by keeping any outside web/mail server activity off my internal network.

This unfortunately does not allow me to replace my webserver with an e-smith server as I am unable to access it during the initial install because it does not recognize my lan as being "local".

Yes, I could and will install ssh so that I can administer the server remotely but it appears I must be on a local net before I can install ssh.  Why not allow me to setup allowable hosts (hosts/allow ?) during this initial setup so I don't have to keep switching cables/ip addy's back and forth?

Regards,
Joe

You need to have a keyboard and monitor attached to your server during the installation. Just log in as root after you complete the install, and access the e-smith-manager using:

lynx http://localhost/e-smith-manager/

You can then allow access from your LAN by going to the Security->Local networks link, from the "Click here" link, and telling the e-smith server that your LAN addresses are "local".

where did I miss that??  I don't seem to recall any option to get to a command prompt.  The only option I seem to have is either to come back up to the configuration console directly or enter the root passward which then dumps me once again into the configuration console.  (granted I did this last night and am going from memory but I don't recall any option to get to a command prompt)

Once the machine reboots, hit Alt + F3, which will give you a login prompt.  Log in as root, with the administrator password you chose when you installed the system.  You'll get a command prompt.
