One feature that would make e-smith more appealing in the enterprise is an easy way to sync the LDAP directory of multiple e-smith servers. In a larger office with several department e-smith servers, or a multi site enterprise with e-smith in several remote offices, or simply syncing e-smith LDAP with other existing LDAP databases, the need to consolidate basic LDAP info like email address, and name and phn# is a must. The e-smith server would replicate it's local LDAP data/changes on a schedule, and pick up the data/changes from specified remote LDAP servers. The result would provide each e-smith server with a full multi e-smith server company address book containing the local user information and a read only directory of non-local user information.
Simply consolidates the LDAP data like email addresses and contact info from multiple locations.
Open LDAP is the package used for e-smith's LDAP which I understand has the ability to queue changes for replication with other LDAP servers, and can be configured to read updates from other LDAP directories while still keeping local information seperate.
I could not find any postings related to this on the various e-smith lists, has anyone attempted this yet?
