E-mail question ???
« on: July 03, 2001, 03:39:32 AM »
I am very new to LINUX. I would like to set up e--smith as my gateway to the net. My ISP forwards all my mail to my static IP address. My internet connection is via permanent dialup to same ISP. My domain is hosted at same ISP. I would like to host my mail on the e-smith so i can setup and modify users locally etc, but I want to leave my domain hosted by the ISP rather than on the E-smith. Is this possible and if so could someone please tell me what configuration i need to set up in the e-smith console ?

Very Many Thanks,

Paul Archer.

Probably the best way to do this is to set the e-smith system name to mail.yourdomain.com, and ask your DNS provider (probably your ISP) to (1) point mail.yourdomain.com to the static IP address of your e-smith server, and (2) set up an mx record pointing mail for yourdomain.com to mail.yourdomain.com.

Then, in the e-smith manager's "hostnames" panel, point www, ftp, etc. to the ISP's server.
