I know it has been quite some time since it has been discussed here. However, I has hoping to see the integrated anti-virus at version 5. There are already users that have added this afterwards, many using products like RAV. However there was a suggested promise at one time months back of seeing a built in anti-virus in the next release that would scan all inbound and outbound traffic. What ever happened to that?

Well it's there!  If you purchase NOC services (aka ServiceLink)
subscription with SME 5 you get the benefit of the auto-updating
Trend antivirus blade.

What about people who don't need NOC services but would like an antivirus?

Bingo!  For what it cost to pay for the annual subscription plus NOS for only one year I could purchcase a hardware firewall w/ AV filtering, and a transparent proxy and OWN IT.

Ok, this would work if you were using the server for e-mail. I was hoping it was posible to have the server scan all incoming and out going traffic. Not just scan e-mail.

Trend Micro makes a product for Linux based gateways that scan ALL traffic.  Not sure if it's e-smith compatible, but you can take a look.
