Scheduled Desktop Backup To CD

I figured that problem out.  CD Utils default drive for the CD rom is hdb.  My SME has assigned the CD rom as hdc.  Making this change allowed cdrecord to scan the drive.

I have a new problem...I initially started a backup that was many times the capcity of a CDR.  I mistakenly rebooted to stop the backup process instead of letting it error out which would have taken hours.  Now, the Backup to CD feature states a backup is in progress which is really is not.  How do I reset this?

Thanks for your input Aaron.

Great!
I'd like the same thing for the same reasons you've given. We use a removable HD today. Works not every time since W2000 does have problems with handeling large copies of temp files (I think :-)).........

Thanks Haydn! Great tool.

Can it be modified to be used with DVD-R/RW?

I think there is plenty of scope for expanding what cd-utils provides - just limited scope in my availability.

Is anyone who has been following this forum interested in helping out? I'd really like to get more people on board

Firstly I would like to get the initial set of features stable - and push out to release a simple, yet stable Version 1. So feedback on how installations go would be really helpful, and what problems you experience.

I have some ideas to expand cd-utils including:

 - Some decent documentation
 - rpm package to make install / uninstall easier
 - Support for CD spanning
 - Support for DVD burning (I don't have access to a DVD burner)
 - BUT also to be cautious of scope creep simplicity is the key.

Also, if you make changes, or want to know where to make changes, let me know so we can try to incorporate it.

Please Try and move discussions to the sourceforge site
Don't be afraid to start a new thread, or use the bug tracker!

Cheers

Dear Haydn

As you might have noticed, i was asking for DVD support for your cd_utils package, which is by the way a very impressive piece of Software as it comes to integration in the e-smith envinronment.

Since i am at no means a programmer, i am very sorry for not being able to help you out, but i am sincerely hoping that you will find the people willing and able to make your package even more useful. I am and will be very interested in any progresses you will make.

I already have tried to use dvdread (package 0.1.2. currently ditributed with RedHat 7.3) and just create a softlink from cdrecord to dvdrecord: without success. I suppose your scripts are doing some image file size checks to 700M boundaries and would therefore fail, if these contraints are not met.

Anyway, thanks for your work so far and keep it up.

Greetings

Gian

I suggest that you join the devinfo mailing list, and repeat your call there. Send mail to devinfo-subscribe@lists.e-smith.org.

Sadly, neither do I, but I'd love to :-)
