I was wondering if anyone could help me setting up an Imation Travan-3 Parallel port tape backup drive on V4.12 of E-smith. I am fairly new to Linux and have searched everywhere for clues, but with no luck.
Does E-smith even support parallel taped devices? and if detected what should it appear as in /dev/???
I think that i have to use ftape but am not sure how?
/sbin/e-smith/backup
returned: backup aborted: no tape loaded
/usr/bin/flexbackup -fs all
returned: ftmt not found in $path
If I can't get the tape drive working is it possible to set E-smiths automatic backup so that it saves into an ebay. I could then attach the tape drive to one of the windows computers and schedule a nightly backup from there. Not the perfect solution but would work untill we can afford a ide tape drive.
btw .. We are a community house using E-smith on a P200 computer with a dial up connection and 4 win98 boxes connected and it has been so much better (except for learning Linux) than when we were using a windows computer with internet sharing software installed.
