dvd::rip cluster node on SME 6.0
« on: January 21, 2004, 04:25:07 AM »
Hi all.

Seeing that I have a "test" (=> simple fileserver serving myself and streaming to the Xbox using Samba) SME6 doing nothing 98% of the time, I was thinking about "clustering" it to my main computer (a debian "unstable")

I had 2 goals :
Have the SME 6.0 work as a dvd::rip cluster node using the release for rh 7.3 (perl-Video-DVDRip-0.48.6-fr0.rh73.1.i386.rpm)

wich I tried to install,
(I quicly pass on ImageMagick and such being requisite, and finally installed --nodeps out of frustration)

wich got me to :
[root@ourserver 2]# rpm -Uvh perl-Video-DVDRip-0.48.6-fr0.rh73.1.i386.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
        Gtk-Perl is needed by perl-Video-DVDRip-0.48.6-fr0.rh73.1
        ogmtools is needed by perl-Video-DVDRip-0.48.6-fr0.rh73.1
        subtitleripper is needed by perl-Video-DVDRip-0.48.6-fr0.rh73.1
        vcdimager is needed by perl-Video-DVDRip-0.48.6-fr0.rh73.1

No Problem, I go Dependencies hunting.
Get all it asks for the dvdrip rpm.

=> Got another (long) list of unmet dependencies.

So, did Anyone already success in what I am trying to do ? (integrating SME in a dvd::rip cluster) Am I on the verge of losing my sanity if I go on ? 8)

The next step was using this machine as a Blender rendering node...should I also drop this one ?

I'm using another SME to host my fathers genealogy website, and also a small debian tips/Reminders for myself + webmail. In this "basic" configuration, the server does an astounding good job, whith the users panel and all the contribs (thanx you all, I use what you do, and, most of the time, I like it 8)

Maybe I should ditch the "test" SME and install a debian fileserver on it ...?(if anyone knows an easy debian distro that makes simple SMB shares + Xbox streamer 8p)...

Please help, I need counsel before reinstalling after all the dependencies install I already made...And I want to know if what I intend is possible without being an SME God Level User (you know who you all are 8), for I'm not...
