Strange mail delivery problem
« on: January 20, 2004, 07:12:52 PM »
Hy,

I have a subscription on the webworld-newsletter. with my own personal e-mail adress (m.l.kok_at_focus.demon.nl). But I always receive the newsletter at the "admin"(postmaster??) account instead of my own mailbox.

The header says:

Quote

Received: from localhost (127.0.0.1) by mlkserver.focus.demon.nl (127.0.0.1) with ESMTP; 20 Jan 2004 13:55:08 -0000
Received: from pop3.demon.nl by localhost with POP3 (fetchmail-5.9.0) for postmaster_at_focus.demon.nl (multi-drop); Tue, 20 Jan 2004 14:55:08 0100 (CET)
Received: from store-20.mail.nl.demon.net by mailstore for m.l.kok_at_focus.demon.nl

(for security reasons I changed the '@' sign)

Why ??

Thanks
Rien

This assumes you have email retrieval set to multi-drop?

As I understand it, its because of the way multidrop (pop3) works, the data within the headers that show who the end user should be aren't seen correctly so the email goes to the default address (postmaster).

Thats the way I understand it, but I could be wrong.

The alternative is to have your domain MX record point directly to your server instead and change the e-mail retrieval to standard.

Hi,

You're correct, I do use multidrop. The strange thing is the mailserver works fine. All other mail for m.l.kok_at_focus.demon.nl is delivered correctly, for other addresses too.  Only the mail from webworld goes wrong.

That's the strange thing, why the mail from webworld? I first thougt that the address was wrong so I checked it over and over again. I also have the option:

"E-mail to unknown users:" set to "Return to Sender"

Why??

Don't know 8-)

I never realy got a satisfactory answer to it either, but it's something to do with some email list software, your isp pop accounts and multidrop type accounts all having problems interpreting the headers of the emails.
