I need to use www.domainname.com rather then local server ip. I am currently runing sme 5.6 with updates and extra's. when using my web browser to connect to the ibay i use the local ip address but i would rather use the domain name showing it as it would be from outside my local network. ie from the internet. ive browsed the threads and noticed this somewhere weeks ago but i cant find it again

Heres the answer. My linux gateway/firewall needed me to edit the host file located within the etc directory and then add the ip of the local server hosting the domain. so when it looks for the domain name it  sends it local insteed of sending out to the net.

You didn't give us much time to reply. ;-)
If you use your SME Server as DNS for the workstations, it should be handled automatically.
