I am a little in doubt about virtual domains and extra hosts on the e-smith (V. 6.0)

When is the one preferred over the other and what is the major differences?

I am looking to use email-virtual domains, and create useraccounts in the form of username_domain_tld (so i can have info_dom1 and info_dom2. But i am confused about if i should use virtual domains or hosts.
