I have a PPPOE dsl modem and e-smith acting as a DHCP server and gateway through the DSL modem. First, kudos to e-smith. It installed instantly and works flawlessly, except that every 5-6 hours my client PC's LOSE their internet connections without warning. It just stops working.
Here's the weird thing.... I can correct the hung connection by merely telnetting into the e-smith server. once the login is complete, my clients instantly get their connection back!
Is the e-smith box going to sleep or something? If this was caused by my dsl modem's dynamic IP being changed (this is possible), how would that hang the server, and how would a mere telnet login "fix" the server's routing problem?
I hope this is enough information; I appreciate any suggestions anyone can offer.
