OK. I was trying to fix the dreadful hang I was getting from XP on connection to the Internet or to my server. It just froze for 2 - 10 minutes almsot every connection or rather, XP's Windows Explorer froze. The clock failed to update for 5 minutes or so then would refresh then refreeze for the remaining 3 minutes or so.
I fixed the hang but now while I can ping the server and use it via putty but can't

Whatever I seem to do just keep confirming my opinion that XP Pro seems to be a pretty broken product.
What I'd like is to be able to use a dial-up modem on my XP box and connect to the server via my LAN. Also to be able to connect via the LAN and a modem on the LAN to the internet. (not simultaneously, obviously)
How do I fix this blasted XP this time. What's broken on it now? It's driving me nuts. Microsoft's mucked around with the protocols and wizards so much they're unrecognisable from NT and 95/98.
