CMS (Content Management System) & SME 6.0,
« on: March 15, 2004, 07:16:59 PM »
Hey Team...
 2 Questions for the experienced Guru's..

1) What CMS (content management system) would you prefer for use with SME6.0? Nuke Portals, MamboServer.. etc..

2) When you do use a CMS that uses MySQL / PHP, what recommendadtion would you give when setting up the system on SME 6.0?

I'm trying to see what is the best resource CMS to use, and best place to ask is HERE!

Best Regards..

Wrong!
The best place to ask about CMS is CMS forums.
http://www.opensourcecms.com/ or similar.
Pick the CMS you like and if it works with MySQL and PHP or Perl it will likely work on SME.
Come back and search for info of installing CMS you've chosen on SME.

Actually, I fear that link won't work so just search contribs.org for geeklog and the howto will come up.

This really depends on what you are trying to do.  I'd stay away from the nukes as they are kind of rough around the edges.

You need to decide if you are setting up a website that will serve as a portal or a regular static site.  If the answer is a portal, then I'd suggest Xoops; the CMS that contribs.org uses.  Very nice.  If you are setting up a static website, I'd suggest Mambo Open Source.

I was a big fan of PostNuke for a few years. Over the past two months I've totally switched to Mambo. It is very easy to install and admin. It runs fast and looks nice. After install you don't need to know any HTML so it's very easy for non-techs to update a site.

The API is not very well documented but if you are pretty good at PHP you can read the source and figure it out. I am in the process of writing my own component and it's pretty easy.

Mambo is dead simple to install under SME. Create a database for it (I like to use Webmin for MySQL admin) and copy the scripts to an ibay and then visit the URL and follow the wizard.

Never used XOOPS so no comment there.
