osCommerce with SME 6.0 Final
« on: January 14, 2004, 12:20:44 AM »
I am about to install osCommerce (cdj-mitel-oscommerce-1.0-07.noarch.rpm  version) from http://www.acenet-tech.org/cdj/ on my SME 6.0 Final

I would like to know if anyone else has done a similar install and if there were anything to watch for.

Cheers

I tried it, it seemed to install ok but didn't work after the install.... i ended up installing it maually which isn't really that much work.

I used these instructions:

http://www.acenet-tech.org/cdj/osCommerce_on-SME_howto/osCommerce-on-SME_5.5-how-to.htm

I have it running on a SME6 server and it is very reliable. You have to be careful to install it and reference the directory Primary and not primary (note the capitalized 'P'). Craig did some tweaking for me too and I am very pleased with the results.

I have been testing the latest release from Craig it has been modified to work on sme 6.0 and it works great it installed without a problem and so far has no no bugs that I can find

It installs to /home/e-smith/files/ibays/Primary/html/catalog
no admin from server-manager which I feel is good - keeps store owner out of server-manager

Craig has done a great job I ahve installed the latest mm & cvs from oscommerce and they were both buggy banners didn't work no admin login
and other issues

Craig is going to release the latest after a little testing he says

hope this helps

Hi All,

I'm new to this so please help me to setup my online store poperly.

Q1. When i logon as admin and change my store name under configuration still showing as OSCommerce on web interface.

Q2. Error: Backup directory does not exist. Please set this in configure.php
I can see it's in the configure.ini but just "\Backups" do i need to add path or how?

Q3. I got some demo info how can i overwrite these or delete (create empty database)

Q1. When i logon as admin and change my store name under configuration still showing as OSCommerce on web interface.

OsCommerce is a logo find the images dir and rename the logo to logo.old or something then add your own logo try to use the same size logo and name it logo.gif Your store name is probably correct if you check the welcome emails - make a test account with your email address and when you setup it you should get an email from your store if all is configured correctly

Q2. Error: Backup directory does not exist. Please set this in configure.php
I can see it's in the configure.ini but just "\Backups" do i need to add path or how?

Just add the directory and set the permissions to 777
you can add it easy using midnight commander put the backups dir in the correct place I think /admin/backups is it

Q3. I got some demo info how can i overwrite these or delete (create empty database)

Don't worry about the old data or use phpmyadmin to remove the records Don't create a new database as you will lose your store settings
