mail problems (I think)
« on: March 11, 2004, 02:37:16 PM »
After a reboot I have problems recieving and sending emails even from servers other than my own. The following is a line from the log file:

Mar 11 14:23:08 calvin kernel: denylog:IN=eth0 OUT=eth1 SRC=24.112.187.5 DST=192.168.1.7 LEN=40 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=234 ID=0 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=32812 DPT=4662 WINDOW=0 RES=0x00 RST URGP=0

It would seem it is a kernel error. But what can I do about it?

I forgot to mention that all other internet trafic than mail is working fine.

Nope !
This line does not describe a kernel error.
I'm afraid it has nothing to do with your maillog either. Looks more like an iptables log-entry to me.
If your mail doesn't function, you need to clarify:
What version (updates) of SME ?
Specifics on your e-mail settings ? (Do you drive your own mailsystem, or do you use your ISP's ?)
etc.

First of all sorry about the very late reply. The truth is that I was planning a reinstallation of the server on a new harddrive. So my problem just made me move that a bit foreward. Later on however I found out what my problem was. So I just wanted to let you all know the problem/solution.

It started after I had added more domains to the list that clamav should scan for virus in. I used pico to edit the setup file on the server. Unfortunatly the additional server made the line in the setup file a bit longer than pico could show in one line. It therefore split the line in two. This made it unreadable to clamav or was it amavis? And that was the reason fore all the fuss.

So now you all know it. I AM STUPID.

Yeah, I had a similar problem a year or so back.
Pico is a wonderful little editor, but it has limitations you have to be aware of if you want to avoid inexplicable problems.
As I remember it, Dan Brown helped me out back then.
