Hi,

I have a sme 5.5. What is the easiest way (for a dummie like me) to upgrade to 6.0?

Thank you.

You can just chuck the CD in and boot. It will upgrade itself with minimal involvement.

Given that you are using 5.5 that is pretty much it (earlier versions apparently need an intermediate upgrade first)

I have never backed up properly, and never had a problem, of course I would advise that you back up very thorougly first ;) No telling what state you could leave your system in if the upgrade should fail...

Why not get the new Contribs.org 6.0.1 release http://no.longer.valid/news/article.php?storyid=16 it contains bug fixes over the older Mitel 6.0 version (and a pretty new logo ;) )

I've heard you need to go to 5.6, then go to 6.0 when you upgrade.

SME Server 6.0.1-01 (aka takeoff) is the first community release of the former e-smith server distribution. This release contains mostly bugfixes and changes in appearence. We advise you to update your current e-smith servers with 'takeoff' from 5.5 and up. If you are using earlier versions of the e-smith distribution (e.g. prior to e-smith 5.5) please upgrade to version 5.6 prior to upgrading to 'takeoff'. For community support, please visit http://contribs.org.

Thanks for the reply.

I did a little search in this forum, and it seems that everybody recommended 5.5 -> 5.6 -> 6.0/6.0.1.

The problem is that I need to backup all the data first before doing any upgrades. Can anybody help me with the "HOW TO" on backing up and restoring SME.

Thank you.

John.
