Topic: More recommendations for Tape Drives

Hi All,

I have here yet another failed Travan drive.

A Seagate TR4 [STT28000A]

This one lasted 2 years - I think it cost about
170 GBP.

I was wondering what is the next best move
upwards in terms of price / longevity and
can anyone comment on their own experiences
with tape drives ?

I don't think I want to go the Travan route
again but have only limited budget . . .

Look into hadrdrive backups.
Either second drive in the server or USB2/firewire drive on the workstation for offsite storage.

NO - has to be tape - the users can cope with swapping tapes.

www.scan.co.uk have a Sony DDS drive for about 300GBP

The average life of DAT drive is about 3 years.  The usually fail a few month after the warranty expires.
