How to open ports SME 5.6
« on: March 29, 2004, 09:46:58 PM »
I'm running SME Server 5.6 with a basic install, no added configurations. What I need to know is how to verify open ports (specifically I need ports 443 and 80 open) and add ports if they are not currently open. Also, I need to be able to add domains to let traffic back in.

80 and 443 should be open.  Anytime a service is configured to run, that port is opened.  http and https are both running by default AFAIK on 5.6.  For example, if you enable external access to pop/imap, those ports will be opened.  You can add domains/virtual domains in the http://yourhost/server-manager.

hello

there are 2 contribs out there

one to open ports & one to scan for open ports

they are both included in the sme 6.0.1 custom iso
you should be able to find them with a search

take a look a the link

first:
if a service runs on the machine, all needed ports are opende automatic (http: 80 and 443)

second:
you need a contrib installed to open am additional port (called port-opening-contrib), search the forum or download-area

third:
ports that are not used are closed automatic (they are not opened).
the strategy ist to close all port first and then open the needed ports later.

at last:
use the search function of the forum.
