Hi,

I have always used SME on old Pentium machines and never on a specialized server. As we are moving on and upgrading our network, we are considering to install a new powerful SME server to meet the increasing demand.

I'm afraid to fall into the hardware non-compatibility dilemma and thought I should ask first. What hardware specification do you recommend for a powerful SME server that will server around 25 – 30 employees as their email, proxy, intranet and smb server. I'm considering the Dell PowerEdge 4600 as the main option. The Compaq Proliant ML 370 is my next option. Has anybody tested those with SME before? Any specific issues I have to take care of before we make a decision. !!

Thank you for your assistance.

Regards,

Offline Boris

DELL is a good choice.
You don't really need much power for the tasks you've described, just drive space according to your requirements. ANY today's server will do just great.
I don't have PE4600, but I've installed SME on all range of PowerApp servers and on PowerEdge 400, 600, 1600, 2550, 2650, 2600, 2300, 1450 with great success. I'm sure I've missed some more modeles, but you've got the point.
