NO-IP dynamic DNS client

Hi friends,

Has anybody tried to setup dynamic DNS client for NO-IP DNS provider for E-smith? NO-IP web site provides clients for different OS, they have one for Linux but I don't know how to set it up.

I will appreciate any help.

Why would you want to use that when there are several dynamic IP tools built in to e-smith already? At least 2 of them are free.  They are listed in Appendix B in the e-smith user guide.

" e-smith, inc. has tested four dynamic DNS services, of which two are free services and two are commercial services: yi.org (free), dyndns.com (commercial), tzo.com (commercial) and dyndns.org (free). For simplicity, we have preprogrammed the e-smith server and gateway to work with these services (including pre-installing their client software). If you have arranged dynamic IP address assignment from your ISP and you wish to use one of these services, all you need to do is visit the appropriate web site to sign up for service, and enable that particular function in the e-smith console. In pre-configuring the e-smith server and gateway for this particular service, we in no way interfere with nor prevent you from using another dynamic DNS service if you wish. To do so, however, would require some customized configuration on your part."

Why spend time fiddling when e-smith has done the work for you. (Unless you like to fiddle with things like I do. LOL!)

Thanks for your reply. The reason I am using NO-IP for DNS is becuase they were the cheapest service available as compared to DNYDNS or TZO. But now I don't really know how to copy files into e-smith etc.

Thanks.

Well if you have your esmith server on your Lan it shares out the "primary" folder to the lan if you are logged into your windows or Mac machine using the admin account. (Or make an account on your domain (If you use NT) Or make your e-smith server the primary server on your network, the option is in the e-smith manager.) Then you can just map the primary folder like any other windows share and drop the files in the HTML folder under the primary folder..

If you are not connected to a lan or you don't want to map folders then you can ftp in using the admin account, just set the FTP permissions using the e-smith-manager to allow for internet (If doing it from the net) or LAN access. Just remember to turn off the internet FTP after you are done moving files (Or as soon after as you can) To make your server secure.

Using something like ws_ftp or cute ftp makes it really easy to do.
