Topic: Nameserver Problem

I have a little problem the nameserver for my domain is my providers nameserver and only my domain has a record.
So no subdomains is directed to my ip.
mail.<mydomain>

for instance doesn't work ... do this is a standard hostname on the server and I can't seem to change it.

I it possible to let just everything use just my domainname without the extensions ?
