It looks like Shad may be rebuilding his site/server. http://www.lordsfam.net/ returns an "Under Contsruction" page.

Any ideas where the Arkeia rpm would be?
« Reply #2 on: April 06, 2004, 01:07:18 AM »
I have a SONY AIT drive that I am having trouble detecting and getting flexbackup to use.
I had heard Arkeia was the way to go. Any thoughts or resources you can offer for running an AIT drive would be greatly appreciated.

if anyone can email me the current rpm I would really appreciate it!

You can download contrib
e-smith-arkeia-2.0-4.noarch.rpm at http://www.ergin.dyndns.org/download/RPMS/contribs/

I think it worked with arkeia v5x

It looks like you're trying to backup from the server manager?

Basically, to get it working, I uninstalled the previous version and installed v5 from Shad Lords' site, per the instructions there. Because the contrib was written for 5.x, and in 6.0, Mitel changed the backup script name to do_backup, I found I had to manually expand the /sbin/e-smith/backup template. Once I'd done this, it's been working fine (I run it via cron.d once per
week).

I was running version 5.1.17-1. Taking your sugestion I uninstalled it [and the e-smith-arkeia rpm] and reinstalled like the instructions on Shads site. At least I think I did since Shad's site has been taken down for repairs. Then I expanded the template like you sugested and still I'm missing the file I need. Yes I am running this via the server manager and would like to continue to do so. I need to do a daily back up so that I can't lose more than one day of emails.

P.S. I tried running version 5.2.7-1 and it didn't work with the e-smith-arkeia-2.0-4.noarch.rpm.

After removing arkeia I am having the same problem!

Stan,
Did you get a fix for that after removing arkeia.
Decided to go back to flexbackup - seemed to support the AIT drive better??? Anyway I am having the problem you describe and I cannot schedule a backup with the do_backup script.

Can anyone let me know how to fix?

No still haven't found a solution for this. I'm hoping that Shad will find some time in his busy schedule to help us with a fix. Looks like he has his work cut out for him though. He just upgraded to 6.0 like last week some time and now he's planning on redoing his whole web site. Not sure but I'll bet he has found the same problem we've all found with 6.0.1 and Arkeia. Was looking through Arkea's documentation on the comand line interface for a simple comand line statement to run Arkea and found it way to tough to figure out in my schedule. If anybody has the comand line statement to run for now maybe you could post it for us all to us in the mean time until a solution can be found for the Server-Manager function.

If you've installed Shad's contrib, running /sbin/e-smith/backup, from the command line or from cron.d, will work. As you noted, the server manager requires an update; however, it's not entirely necessary to use it.

Expanding template creates /sbin/e-smith/backup
« Reply #13 on: April 19, 2004, 02:01:16 AM »
Ok here is what I've done so far. I upgraded from 5.6 to 6.0.1 but ran into troubles with several contribs. So I did a clean install of 6.0.1 and then reinstalled the contribs including Arkeia. I still couldn't get Arkeia to run under 6.0.1. Got to doing some reading under bugs and found the answer. All you have to do is /sbin/e-smith/expand-template sbin/e-smith/backup. Only problem was I didn't have any files under /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/sbin/e-smith/backup. I actually did it the hard way by finding the three files that go under that directory on one of my old backup tapes. The three files should be 30arkeia, 90rewind-tape, and 20probe-tape. Once I expanded that template it created the missing file /sbin/e-smith/backup.

The three files are included in the rpm e-smith-arkeia-2.0-4.noarch.rpm. So if you don't have the correct files on a backup tape you should be able to uninstall [rpm -e e-smith-arkeia-2.0-4] E-Smith Arkeia and Arkeia and reinstall. That's assuming that you've already install either of the Arkeia RPM's. Actually you'd have to uninstall Arkeia first and then the E-Smith Arkeia to keep from getting dependency errors.

Once you reinstall the rpm's make sure you have the correct templates and then expand them. Don't forget to do a /sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot after you've expanded the template.

I'm running arkeia-light-5.1.17-1.i386.rpm with e-smith-arkeia-2.0-4.noarch.rpm and they are working together. I tried arkeia-light-5.2.x-x and it didn't work with the E-Smith rpm. From what I can tell the 5.2 version changes how the command line options are used.

Once you get Arkeia to run you might have to add your tapes back into Arkeia using the server-manger interface.

Hope this all makes sense and it helps somebody. If anybody finds any errors in my ramblings above let me know.

I keep posting messages here because that's where I started. If anybody knows of a better thread to post my notes on let me know.

Found another problem; Worked great day one but day two I get
Quote
Can't exec "/etc/e-smith/events/actions/tape-backup-arkeia": No such file or directory at /sbin/e-smith/do_backup line 52. Backup terminated: backup failed - status: -1

So far I've solved the problem by making a copy of the /etc/e-smith/events/actions/backup-tape file and simply renamed it tape-backup-arkeia. I thought about making a custom template for it but I don't think I'll need it. I don't think I'll need it because I left the original file alone and simply made a copy with a new name. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Sorry I havent got back to this thread. been havign a few dramas.
Here's is where I am at.
I installed arkeia-light-5.2.7-1
and currently I am accessing it from a windows workstation with the java interface.
I couldn't find any straight forward info for configuring from command line.
Seem to back up but logs fail to write and I might have something misconfigured with the tape recycling.

I couldn't get anything else to work right.
Th AIT drive I am using works - but I have to reload the scsi-ide module after startup.

The e-smith module obviously as noted doesnt work even with the manual cron job.

I really hope Shad is looking into this module but he seems to have fallen off the face of the planet.

At this stage I would go back to flexbackup but after installing the e-smith-arkeia, flexbackup was broaken when I went to remove it.

So stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Will keep updating this thread if you dont mind so as to keep all the experiences in one place.

Have another identical server config this week so will let you know if I have any other breakthroughs.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but Im trying to get Arkeia-light running on my new instalation of 6.0.1-1 custom.  A prior message in this thread showed success with this combination:
arkeia-light-5.1.17-1.i386.rpm with e-smith-arkeia-2.0-4.noarch.rpm

I have located e-smith-arkeia-2.0-4.noarch.rpm, however, for the life of me, I can't find arkeia-light-5.1.17-1.i386.rpm.  I can only locate RPMs for the newer builds.  Does anyone have this RPM on their server and is willing to e-mail it to me?  I'd really appreciate it.

Also, if anyone has had success running a later version of Arkeia-light with the e-smith flexbackup hooks, that would interest me more.  Thanks,

Altaf

I don't think this is the light version. But older versions are at this url:

I wanted to share a success in this thread - 6.0.1 fresh install, installed the Arkeia RPMs from moonlight, expanded the backup file, then copied to do_backup (after moving do_backup somewhere safe).

Configured Arkeia via the Admin page, and can now back up successfully to both of my tape drives (20/40 DLT and DDS2 autoloader) just by selecting the appropriate backup device.

Installed the Java client on a desktop PC and was able to backup that across the network as well.

I'm still investigating automated differential backups, so I can backup these desktops each night, but currently I can do a remote backup via VNC, which is a start.

you don't need to use the admin page ... just download the gui for windows or linux.

I can loginto my server using Linux or windows to setup all the settings and do backups etc.

Do a search here on arkeia and download all relavent files.

I'ts as easy as installing all the files and then access the server.

Download the latest arkeia light from the arkeia site ... then if you want to access through server-manager install e-smith-arkeia-2.0-4.noarch.rpm from http://www.moonlightcomputers.homelinux.com/contribs4/backup/arkeia/. Then install the arkeia jui onto your favorite operating system and access the server. The arkeia site as a few pdf files to help as well.

Read everything carefully and you won't have any problems installing it.

After installing arkeia light and shad lords contrib, expanding /sbin/e-smith/backup template, I keep on havin the issue : "Can't exec "/etc/e-smith/events/actions/tape-backup-arkeia": No such file or directory at /sbin/e-smith/do_backup line 52.
Backup terminated: backup failed - status: -1"
I checked the appropriate directory, and although theer are plenty of scripts for arkeia, the script "tape-backup-arkeia" is missing..
I tried to reinstall the contrib.. not better.. wtf do I do wrong ???  :hammer:
Thanks in advance for any help..

Are you using a gui to access your server or are you trying to use the server-Manager panel ... I don't use the server-manager panel I access my server through a gui installed on my PC. This way you have a lot more control over your backups etc.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Can't exec "/etc/e-smith/events/actions/tape-backup-arkeia": No such file or directory at /sbin/e-smith/do_backup line 52.
Backup terminated: backup failed - status: -1

Also, everytime I run via the GUI, it ejects the tape.  As this server is thousands of miles from me, is there something I can do to prevent ejection?

Thanks
