IMAP email errors?
« on: August 13, 2001, 08:08:57 PM »
Hello,

Does anybody know why I'm getting the following errors when I launch my email client and it connects to the IMAP email server on my e-smith box?

Your 'Drafts' folder was not polled for its unread count. The operation was canceled by the user. Account: 'e-smith server', Server: '192.168.1.1', Protocol: IMAP, Server Response: '', Port: 143, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC17

Header download for the 'Inbox' folder did not complete. The operation was canceled by the user. Account: 'e-smith server', Server: '192.168.1.1', Protocol: IMAP, Server Response: '', Port: 143, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC17

What am I missing here?  Any insight or tips are appreciated, thanks!

Regards,
Patrick

Patrick,

What e-mail client do you use? I have experienced stability problems with Outlook and Outlook Express running against a 4.1.1 server. The 4.1.2 upgrade includes some fixes for IMAP which resolved the problems I saw.

Des,

These errors were generated while using Outlook Express (Version 5.50.4522.1200) on a Windows 2000 Professional system running SP2 and the latest Win2k/IE 'Critical Updates'.

Maybe it's the way I have the client configured for IMAP mail?

Thanks.

I'm running W2K Serv with SP2.. and I get them also.

Quick Q.. is your system using a dynamic IP?. A hunch I have is that Outlook is storing the actual IP rather than the full server name.. and thus can get confused.

This is NOT fully tested - but I am trying to gather info also..

David,

Yes, my Win2k Professional machine is getting assigned a dynamic IP by the e-smith server via DHCP.

I'm not sure I follow your thinking on this however; since the e-smith server's IP is static and I have configured my Outlook Express mail client with the actual IP of the e-smith server.

Anyway, thanks for your help/insight into this.

Patrick

I have spoken with e-smith about this.  There are problems with the way that outlook and outlook express handle imap compared to the standard way that e-smith uses.  They are trying to work on a way to iron out all the problems, but the main issue is that ms didn't adhere to the standard.

Hope that helps,

Daniel
