Picking up email from mail.isp.com from account user@isp.com
« on: April 06, 2004, 05:41:29 PM »
The subject says it all.

I know this has been discussed before, but I am unable to find it in the archives, can someone point me to the solution?

Just incase you have forgotten, you cannot add a virtual domain for "isp.com", otherwise fetchmail will resolve the mail.isp.com to localhost.

Actually as i write this I can see that specifying the mail.isp.com as an IP address will probably work. but there must be a more elegant way![/quote]

Hmmm, this needs to be clarified I think.

you have a pop3 account at an isp called yourisp.com

your pop3 account name is wibble@yourisp.com

you have your own domain that is redirecting e-mail to that pop3 account?

and you want your e-smith server to get the e-mail from that account?

The problem is that in order for the SMEServer to pick up email of the form email@myisp.com, i have to add "myisp.com" as a virtual domain, which then resolves mail.myisp.com locally.

The solution id to use the "hostnames and addresses" panel and set mail.myisp.com to "remote", and specify the ip address.

Thanks for your interest.
