Sony has an IDE based version of its AIT Drive, the model number is SDX420B.
I have a customer with an old existing Novell based server who needs to upgrade.
My proposal is:
HP TC2120 IDE based Server with 256 Mb memory
With 2 x HP supplied 40Gb IDE Hard Disks (configured as RAID-1 using the Linux/SME software option)
Sony IDE tape drive
HP supplied IDE CD-Rom drive
Since they are coming from a 6yo Novell server, speed is not too big an issue. This box is essentially to be used as a filesever to Windows boxen.
My thoughts are to have the HDs as master on each IDE channel and the tape drive / CD as the slaves.
The OS would be SME 5.6 and the tape backup software would be Shad Lord's Arkeia contrib.
Has anyone done anything similar to this? Has it worked? What problems could (will) I encounter?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hugh
