ssh will not connect from external network
« on: April 19, 2004, 10:56:42 AM »
What is required to setup ssh to connect from an external network? I HAVE set via server manager in remote access, to allow ssh, and to allow standard user passwords etc. but when I try to connect from an external network using putty from a windows machine I get the error "Network Error: Connection Refused"

I am a bit of a noobie, so I'm not sure where to look now to track this problem down.

Any help would be most appreciated,

Thanks,

Phil

PhilV,

How are you setup?  Server-only, Server-Gateway. Do you have a firewall between the outside and your server?

Do you have allow public access?

Sorted it. I have the server set up at home and was trying to access it from work. It turned out that my server was able to accept the ssh, but the company firewall was stopping it getting out!

Thanks for your help
