Squidguard's Specific filtering skills

I was wondering if anyone knew of a contrib that allowed some finer grain of content filtering.

Squidguard currently stores its blacklist by topic (porn, warez etc). The current contrib I have installed is the one on the 6.0.1 Custom ISO.

My problem is that its an all or nothing filtering system. This appears to be due to the server-manager interface and not squidguard itself. So, I was considering writing an interface that offered a finer degree of control. Being a university student, I have time to kill and thought this would be useful more than anything else.

If people are tempted by it, then I'll maybe kick myself into doing it :)

Start kicking yourself.  I'd like to see something written that could allow some users to access certain sites and others could not.  This can be done manually using squidguard.  I did some testing a long while ago and achieved that.  It just took some time to learn a little squidguard.  If you write a panel, I think it would be great.  I'd even test it and give you some feedback.

Knock yourself out.  :pint:

I'll look into it. Currently sharpening my skills on an LDAP address book, and loving the complete lack of standards that they have.

Why can't some standards agency produce an LDAP schema that represents a standard users address book??? *lament*

Anyway, I think by comparison, a more specfic squidguard filter might not be too bad, will have a crack at it, and report back.

watch this space :)

If you build it I think it would be nice if you not only made it to filter by client IP address but also give it the option to filter by user name. That way if a user moves from Computer A to Computer B the settings for that user go with him/her. I've seen a lot of ways to control Internet access and/or filtering by using the client IP address. That works good and fine if you're using static IP addresses and the user doesn't know how to change his/her IP address. What good is a content filter if all you have to do is change your IP address to gain full access?

Another item that would be nice to see while your building controls is a time control. No porn from 8 to 6 but allowed later. Would also be nice to control internet access with the contrib at the same time. That way if you have a user you don't want on the net from 8 to 5 you can log them out of the internet all together or restrict them to certain time frames. I've seen and heard a lot of request to limit or kill internet access for certain users and/or at certain times.  8-)
What are the three dots for at the end of my signature file and why can't I get rid of them? These three dots right here >...

I have no experience with using the client ids in squid/squidGuard, can anyone tell me how to turn them on/start lookups etc?
