Network Install and... "/tmp/ks.cfg" problem
« on: March 22, 2004, 04:35:32 PM »
Hi,

I would like to recycle a Dell Inspiron 7500 with a Xircom 10/100 + 56 network card.
The CD-ROM is broken
(My little boy pull the network cable and... bang ! "Dell free fall" :)

So, I've to do a network install...
I tried the 6.0.1 iso from http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/smeserver

The install process always complains about a missing "/tmp/ks.cfg" file when I boot from a floppy
"rawrited" with either pcmcia.img or bootnet.img.

I tried to create & edit à ks.cfg file on the  root of the floppy following
"SME Network Installation Setup" howto (see links below).

I even tried to change "SYSLINUX.CFG" to load ks.cfg from the network (see links below).

Thanks in advance for your help, I'm stuck.

You could try to use Trevor Batley's smeserver-thinclient which makes for very easy network installs as long as the PC supports PXE booting.

I have released a new version of smeserver-thinclient which can be found in my
beta contribs directory at http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/trevorb/beta/
