Could someone help me figure out why the example in the manual
"An i-bay Used as Your Customer Download Site" doesn't work. My aim is to have an ibay (called dloads) that allows ftp from a browser.I've enabled ftp from the remote access but when I do a ftp://dloads@ftp.mydomain I can't get in. The ibay is configured as in the manual in the section:
"14.8. An i-bay Used as Your Customer Download Site"

I'm using sme 6.0.1-01

Which Broser do you use? With the last fixes for MS Internetexplorer they don't work with a '@' in the URL-line. Maybe you can check it with Mozilla or Opera ?

Not so sure about that, it works here.

try

ftp://dloads@www.mydomain.xxx

or

ftp://dloads:password@www.mydomain.xxx

This

ftp://dloads@ftp.mydomain.xxx

may not work if you don't have the
host record listed as ftp.mydomain.xxx

I'm using IE6 SP1 and ftp is not working
tried:
ftp://dloads@www.mydomain.xxx
ftp://dloads@ftp.mydomain.xxx
ftp://ftp.mydomain.xxx

and various others.
Its like ftp claims to be working but isn't.
How can I check this.
sme e-smith manager says ftp is enabled and hostnames says ftp.mydomain.xxx is up.

First lets assume you have everything configed right.

If that is true then the problemo might be with the
client.

Try turning off you firewall....zone or symantec.

Open Explorer not IE and copy and paste these....

ftp://dloads@www.mydomain.xxx

ftp://dloads@ftp.mydomain.xxx

ftp://dloads:password@www.mydomain.xxx

ftp://dloads:password@ftp.mydomain.xxx

to note pad then make the appropriate changes then

copy and paste to Explorer each one one at a time closing explorer and opening it again to try the next one.

If those don't work with the firewall down then we have a server problemo.

BTW you did set up a host list for

ftp.mydomain.xxx

later
