Cannot send email
« on: April 28, 2004, 04:02:35 PM »
Well, I hope that someone can help with this issue. I am running SME 6.01 as my mail server. I also have my email from my RoadRunner account forwarded to my SME account, so all my emails are sent to one place. I am currently using Outlook as my email client.

I am unable to send emails, particularly to anyone at (@wi.rr.com or @aol.com) email addresses. I get an email back from MAILER-DAEMON saying the sender rejected it and the mail was refused. Below I have an exact copy of what the error says when I try to email anyone @wi.rr.com. Since then, I have configured Outlook to go back to RR mail server and use my RR account, but I still have the same issue. Any ideas???

Here is the error message:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at ...... I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

Connected to x.x.x.x but sender was rejected.

What is probably happening is that mail is being rejected because your IP is dynamic.  The easiest way to get around this is by going to the email set-up and delegate your ISP's email server for sending.

I have already gone into the server manager and added my ISP's SMTP server, and that didn't fix the problem. My situation can be somewhat confusing because I'm actually using Earthlink, which uses Roadrunner's network. But, the email address I am using (other then the one on my server) is a roadrunner address. I have gone onto the server manager and added both Earthlink's and Roadrunner's SMTP server. Both produce the same error.

I am on Optimum and maintain an Earthlink account.  I can receive from either POP server but can only send via Optimum's.  Earthlink will prevent access to their smtp servers if you are off their network.  Verify that you have access to the RR smtp server.  The fact that it's getting there and being rejected says that you may want to call RR about this, issues of running a server on their network aside.  I also had a problem with RR rejecting all mail originating on optimum and had to have optimum resolve it directly with RR. Some email servers get on 'blacklists' that anti spam uses to filter.  Go to dnsstuff.com and check you smtp servers ip address.
