SME 6.0.1-01 can't dial out. This is the second SME 6.0.1-01 test box that fails dialup Internet access. One server is a Compaq Deskpro with external USR Sportser modem; the other is a white box clone with external Zoom 56K DualMode modem. Both modems work on Win98 test box.

Fails in both server/gateway and private server/gateway modes. Server configuration detects dialup modem on TTYS1. diald and pppd running.

Minicom doesn't communicate with modem on TTYS0, TTYS1, TTYS2, TTYS3, TTYS4.

Lynx http://wiki.contribs.org/ causes the following log messages:

Solved the problem on one box. Sort of.

I double checked the BIOS ports and irqs. Found port 2 address set to port 4 (0x2E8). Set it back to port 2 (0x2F8). But that didn't help.

For the hell of it I left the SME server set at ttyS1 (com2) and switched the cable to the ttyS0 port (com1). Then it worked. I had done this before and nothing improved. Go figure.

Whoever built the box may have crossed the cables from the mobo to the serial ports. Or, SME crossed the ttyS0 and ttyS1 links internally. Still don't know what caused the problem. But it works now...on one box. I have a second SME server with the same comm problem.

Oddly, I received more help from K12LTSP list than this list. Go figure again.
