Just had a look at the new pricing list at e-smith.com for the SME-V5

I must say I'm not very pleased!

Whilst I like everything about e-smith and its reliability etc. The service now on offer is more like a Microsoft solution. I have no problem with the price of Server Base pack other than 90 days support. The Price of other support is questionable.

24 x 7 Alerts If my or my customers server/s is down or has problems I know it. I can get it to e-mail me why via reports anywhere, no charge.

Anti Virus protection: Always good but there are others that will work in SME

Mail Protection: Why! If my server is down my ISP will automatically store it until I'm back up. If it's my ISP that is down how can you contact them to collect my mail and if he has not got a backup mail server he will not be my ISP of very long.

DNS It cost about UK £15 or $25 per year

VPN I can do this now without any extra hardware and the software is free via open source

How will I be able to justify all the added cost to my/your customers?

This is  good news for all those who support open software! Not only will it help smaller business around the world but also third world countrys like eastern Europe & Africa make a move towards computerisation and further education. I'm a business man so I'm not agains making money but there are genuine people out there that just need a hand to help them make their own way and every little helps.

My very best wishes

I've answered this question as a reply to your earlier post (for some reason you posted it three times and appear to be using two names - Peter and Robert Heaton - which makes things pretty confusing).

The reference to "my/your customers" is also confusing, since your firm, North West Linux, are not authorized partners. For the record, your customers are *not* our customers, and we provide no services (support or otherwise) to you or to them. The introduction of SME Server V5 changes nothing.
