I’ve had a SME 5.6 box running for about 1.5 years with no troubles and recently decided to upgrade to a new computer and a fresh install of SME 6.0. Generally speaking the transition was very smooth but I’ve noticed that network connections are very unstable now.
For example, if I login to the server remotely from the outside world using PuTTY eventually (and always random) the server will suddenly stop responding for upwards of 15-30 seconds. Sometimes I will regain the connection, other times PuTTY times out. While the server is not responding I can open up another PuTTY session and the server will respond fine while the other has “stalled”. This also occurs with a WinSCP session.
I’ve also noticed that when I'm viewing an I-bay on the server, web pages load very quick and smooth, but, again suddenly the browser will stall as if the server is not responding with the requested webpage. Sometimes the server responds before a timeout occurs and the page is served, other times the browser shows the infamous “page cannot be displayed” message. While the browser is waiting for the requested page I can open another browser and surf the I-bay as if nothing was wrong.
Does this sound like a hardware issue … or is it a SME 6.0 issue?
Is there anyway to identify this problem, ie a particular log file that may have a clue to what’s happening?
Thanks for any help
