I have been very happy with cusomising SME over the years to suit my needs. (virus and spam processing has been my primary interest). Thanks go to all the hard work people have dedicated time out of their lives to produce a product of such high quality.
Recently I had a request to add some storage to an existing network.
So this is what I did.
1 x HP Procurve hub - free
1 x HP evectra mini pc - ebay $20
1 x celero 466 - free
1 x 128 meg ram - $60
1 x 40 gig ide drive - $80
1 x SME disk - free

1 x grinder - fathers day present
1 x tin paint - $2
4 hrs later I had this nice little rack mounted bolt on storage device.
Then I:
Disable unwanted services
Remote backup
NT Domain Client
User Panel
Initial testing saw 8meg upload and download.
Even when subjected to multiple up/download it's performance ate the current NT server which is running on far superior hardware.
I must say I am very impressed. Maybe you guys have known this all along and I am just a slow learner. LOL
