hardware raid questions

Hi, preparing to build a new server and would like to use hardware raid.  Any advice is welcome. Some specific questions:  Can IDE raid be used easily? I see LSI Logic has some low priced cards like MEGARAID ATA 133 that have Redhat 7.3 drivers, would this work? I don't think speed is a big enough issue for me to overcome the higher prices for SCSI.. although if only SCSI will do for installing SME (6.0.1)...
Also, I see some motherboards with ATA or SATA raid, anyone been able to use these?  Thanks!

3ware.

Most cheap raid solutions are software raid... and not really worth much.... so you really do get what you pay for.

I have used a half dozen different 3ware controllers, 7000, 8000, and the new 9500 series.  Get a 7000 with two ata ports ($100) and mirror them... that's what I have in my SME box.

thanks... are the 3ware controllers supported 'out-of-the-box', or did you have to alter the installation process to load drivers during the sme install? If so, could you give details?  thanks again.
