Trouble connecting to vpn shares
« on: May 30, 2004, 02:44:52 PM »
I am having trouble trying to connect to shares on a e-smith 5.6U6 server via pptp with a Windows XP pro client. I can establish the connection, and see the shared folders, and can look in an empty folder, but if the folder has more than a few files it seems to stall, and I get the following message.

"\\server\acct\wincsi is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The specified network name is no longer available."

I have the chmod set to 770 on all folders

I am logged on as admin.

I can access the folders if I log on from my windows 98 box.

Any Ideas?

Bob

I can access the folders if I log on from my windows 98 box.
If you think you know whats going on, you obviously have no idea whats going on!

I suspect this is a Microsoft problem, to do with XP and the way it handles network resources! I ran into heaps of trouble withXP & Win98/5 on a client site. The easiest way is to disable smart network searching, and also to use IP address instead of name. For example- Start-> Run "\\1.2.34.\sharename". This should open My Computer at your network share folder.

Good luck!
