Weird disk activity...
« on: June 28, 2004, 12:26:20 AM »
Hi,

I have just installed the latest version  of the SME server.  Just server / dedicated gateway with a couple of test users.

However I se that there is constantly some harddrive activity.  Random seeks are done at least each second.  At first I thought it was some background filesystem checking, but now it has persisted for 36 hours.  Is this normal?  Beleow there is a copy of the current processes.  Thanks for any hint / info.

Look at your messages log and see if you have a bunch of 'deny log' entries. You can reduce what's logged to reduce the hard drive activity.

Hi,

Thanks for the tip.  Apparently the is a 'problem' with the DHCP.  I have an ADSL modem with DCHP server which the SME's 'internet' NIC is connected to.

I thought that normally SME would negociate an IP and release it rarely, but this appears to happen about every second.  A portion of the mesage log is copied below.

How can I disable this continous DHCP negociating?

Thanks for any hint
