no. create new ibay, move files, reapply permissions and remove the old ibay.

ah, thanks Boris. Arggghhhh. It was the "reapply permissions" part that was a major pain which I was trying to avoid.

Wish I'd known about the "sandbox security" feature earlier....I would've chosen a different directory structure. I was trying to make different parts of a site "secure" each in it's own ibay, and pass variables across the ibays (so a password for a php pgm in one could be used to access a different program in another ibay (say keep a "chat" in one & a message board in the other, but with a linked registration (both have same username & password) & single log-in system....essentially a modularized system so I could upgrade one tool and leave the others the same))....my programmer spent a lot of time trying different things to "pass variables across" (his phrase) before concluding it couldn't be done. sigh. So the solution then was to consolidate the different components in different ibays into just one ibay (and one ibay has a whole pile of directories with different permissions (allowing writing of files etc) so it made sense to rename that one to the main one and move the other files there). C'est la vie. Thanks for the reply.
