Hi,
Fixed.
I've recently taken over administrating an SME server running version 6.0.
I set up a dlink router infront of the server which used to be directly connected to the PPPOE adsl. Having never used SME before, i've been struggling to get the server to work since the change. All it provides are email services and samba shares to two local networks, 192.168.1.0 and 10.0.0.0.
I've got port forwarding for the server setup correctly on my dlink (other servers work fine), but i couldn't change the firewall to just accept everything on every interface on SME. I ended up adding 0.0.0.0 with my default gateway as the router setting in the local networks section of server manager. I then plugged my previously external interface eth1 into the local network with another local ip. (how do you take a interface down on SME? i use 'ifdown eth1', it just displays some ipcalc errors, 'ifconfing eth1 down' doesn't do anything)
That kinda worked, but now smtpfront occasionally times out when accepting mail (always from the same hosts, which give a 'possible duplicate error)' and gradually gets slower and slower until i have to manually restart it.
Any ideas? I'm sure if i could just accept all on the firewall, everything would be fine, but where do i do that, if i manually flush the firewall, SME just resets it. I don't want to affect any other settings on the machine.
Manually mangled the firewall and all works now.
