QoS - IP traffic priority profiling
« on: September 03, 2001, 10:51:12 PM »
I have e-smith set up at home with 3 PCs attached. Being on a cable connection I'm also using it as a web server for a couple of my web sites.

I'd like to be able to set some basic prioritisation of Internet traffic. For example I'd like ftp traffic to run at a lower priority than http traffic, so that large ftps don't steal all my bandwidth!

I've read about the various QoS features in the kernel, but never used them. Is there any way to implement some of these in e-smith?

TIA
David.

I am also very interested in the possibility of developing a QoS module for e-smith
the VPN applications are becoming more and more demanding of something like this.

eg being able to profile POS data to a Head office without being effected by the constant web/email traffic on the link.

Anyone got any alternative ideas? or ways QoS  could be implemented?

cheers and Merry Chrismas to all - have a safe one
