Am using 5.6 set up as server only (behind dlink router) with port forwarding to pop3 and smtp. Mail clients work ok outside the lan. Local mail clients have to use local lan ip to check mail ! Cannot point local mail clients to mail.xxx.com (this is a problem for mobile laptop users). Am using w2k and xp clients with w2k server and Active Directory. w2k Server resolves DNS (for Act/Dir)and dns is working fine on the lan. Have tried pointing sme dns to the Active Directory DNS server and also the isp dns server to no avail. Server manager reports dns as localhost (192.168.0.xxx) even when it is pointed to other dns machines (is this a bug). Any solutions appreciated.
