Filemaker Server on e-smith

Has anyone tried configuring an i-bay on an e-smith to run as a filemaker 5.5 server?

I am wondering if it works before I drive myself mad trying to configure it.

Thanks

Johan

Why do you want a other database Server program on your server.

Make your databse in MySql en connect your desktop tool/GUI with een ODBC to your centrall server.

If you run NT-2K-XP see on this page http://www.mysql.com/downloads/api-myodbc-3.51.html It's works very well.

We have made a serveral solutions where the first ask off the costumer where "did the server support a other database then MySql". When have every time can make a ODBC to the SME standaard database MySql.

I already installed FM-Server 5.5 a couple of times for our clients and it works fine. I didn´t used an ibay and the fm-server didn´t like to start automatically so you have to type fmserverd start or change init-files to let it autostart.
You have to change some user and group priviligies as well and the .conf file should be changed.
I use a special user "fmuser" and put the data into his home-account. If you need to grab a database-file, simply log-in your mac or win-PC with the authentification of that fmuser and change the files. Don´t forget to stop the server with fmserverd stop before changing anything.

If the client is using Filemaker, there is no way to use ODBC because filemaker doesn´t support it in the way it should be.
Anyway FMServer is far to expensive for what it is.

Because I am in the db design business and the client wants a solution.

If I want back to the client and told him his filemaker db had to be re-built in Mysql and db development stopped, I would be out of business.
