Topic: lm_sensors >= 2.64?

Having just moved my SME 5.6 server to a Via EPIA 500 mini-itx board I wanted to have lm_sensors running. However this requires >=2.64 whereas the Redhat 7.3 version from rpmfind is only 2.6.1 which does not recognise the Via chipset (vt8231 module).

Has anyone made an RPM for lm_sensors newer >=2.64?

Is anyone using lm_sensors on a ViaEPIA?

(I'm guessing that installing the 2.6.5 for RedHat 9 would be a bad idea)

A year later I have the answer.

1) Install a new kernel, either
 a) ATRpm's modified Redhat kernel, from http://www.atrpms.net/dist/rh73/kernel/
 b) MasterSleepy's updated kernel, from http://www.vanhees.cc/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=18

2) Install the latest lm_sensors package from ATRpms, http://www.atrpms.net/dist/rh73/lm_sensors/

Later I'll update my  lm_sensors HowTo


This should mean that anyone running on Via's miniITX can now check the temperature of their server.

This is fantastic news as I was trying to install lm_sensors this past weekend with limited success.  I'm running e-smith on a Shuttle XPC and installed the latest RPM I could find on atrpms.net (2.8.7).  Unfortunately, this RPM has old versions of the it87 module which does not include some of the more advanced fan speed management code that later versions of the module include.  For me in particular, loading this module caused my BIOS controlled case fan to spin up to maximum RPM which is a little extreme for my environment.  My question is, why this RPM package, claiming to be 2.8.7 have modules that are from the 2.6 version of lm_sensors?

lm_sensor is made up of two parts, kernel modules and userland tools. Upgrading just the lm_sensor RPM will only update the userland tools leaving the ancient kernel modules for the various sensors.

Both MasterSleepy & ATrpms provide newer kernels with recent i2c/lm_sensor kernel modules.
