problem accessing sme shares from windows - sme6.01.01
« on: September 16, 2004, 03:57:13 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I cannot authenticate to my sme box from xp.
In the workgroup panel
I setup the windows workgroup to be the same as my xp workgroup. server name is called 'sme'. and other options ie. workgroup and domain controller and roaming profile are set to no.

I can see the sme computer when i expand  my worgroups  in windows...however when I try to access it using my admin userid and password, I am unable to connect and the admin username defaults to xp_machine_name\admin .  Do i need to do anyhting else to access the shares on my sme box.

thanks,
Kris

have you tried creating a user in the server-manager and seeing if you can login using the new user id?

Two options:
1) Create a user account on the SME Server that has the same name and PW as your current Windows uwer.

2) when prompted for the User name and password chang user name to be SME\admin.

Both should work.

Thanks everyone...option 1 from dmac worked..I am baffled as to why I can't login with admin or sme\admin..I can access server manager from my windows machine with admin and passwd. plus ssh into box with admin and password.  I don't think it's a windows issue either, as I connected my old 5.6 server and was able to view shares with admin password and write directly to primary folders and ibays.
