Have set up SME 6 to host 1 domain. The site has a number of users that have iBays created and accessible via FTP with their accounts. Problem is that I need to be able to access their ibays via a Web browser and this does not seem possible either locally or remote. Have set up 2 ibays that are accessible via the Web either without passwords or with their own password but it does not appear possible to give users password access to these ibays using their own logon as a group only access via the ibays specific password. Two problems Web Access to an ibay using their individual logon as a group user and Web access to an individuals ibay using their logon.

Don't take it the wrong way, but chapter 5 of the sme administrator guide is very eloquent in explaining exactly how to do what u just asked. take a look at it (under documentation on the right menu) and I am sure u'll solve ur problem.

No problems with the comment. This works fine with SME 5.6 but individual users still cannot connect to an ibay using their logon, that is for public access via the web, using a password, they have to use the ibay password not their individual password and logon. If a password is set it has to be the one for the specific ibay with the ibay name as the user. My real problem is with the SME6 install where when you create a user an ibay for the user is created automatically. This user ibay is accessible via FTP but does not appear to be accessible via a web browser? Web access to ibays appears to be only possible if you create the ibays separately and then if passwords are required you have to use the ibay name and password? This is very frustrating and I don't like to say it but in Windows it is a fairly simple task to give access to any folders to authorized domain users using their individual username and logon. Am I missing something or can't this be done with SME?

So far we agree. that is normal procedure with standard installation.

Here I tend to disagree...unless you have a modified version of SME Server or I have an old one (mine is 6.0) when you create a user SME Server does not create an ibay for that user. Again, maybe my version is older than yours and I am not aware of this change. However, there are also a couple of modifications that can help u in creating what you want:

Those are 2 contributions that u might find useful. About windows and ease of use u might be right only to the extent that u r not yet familiar with the new environment. I was in the same shoes before, but after a few months and using a test server as my learning platform I surely changed my view. Now after a few years 'I'm lovin' it'.
