hdc: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy } ....
« on: August 11, 2004, 07:46:32 PM »
I recently noticed my software raid 1 was toast but didn't believe the drive was bad. I forced a rebuild on hdc and everything seems to be fine (a few days now.)

I do notice the msg in this subjected repeated with some frequency in my log followed by:
ide1: reset: success.

Does this necessarily mean that there is some hardware problem? Thanks!

I've seen this also & it seems to be on AMD boards with a VIA chipset & certain makes of HDD, although I can't really be definite.  The chances are good the array will break again, IME.

I now put both disks on the same channel & that seems to make the problem go away.

Thanks... it is a DELL mobo based on Intel BX chipset + PIII...

I am thinking that perhaps the drive is spinning down/sleeping?

Anyhow I opened the case and replaced the IDE cables... The errors haven't appeared yet so we will see...

I reliably get this problem with the Seagate U5 series Hard Drives

I don't get this on Seagate Barracudda's

Been some time since I have seen up, but also been some time since I used a U5
